This handbook provides the contest rules for the UIL Lincoln Douglas Debate Contest. Also included in the book, is an entire chapter devoted to philosophy. Additional chapters include: Introduction to Lincoln Douglas Debate, Fundamentals of Value Debate, Evidence and Research, Preparing the Case, Cross-Examination Strategies, Communication and Refutation, and Tournament Competition.

The Appendix of the manual provides affirmative and negative case rubrics and includes UIL contest rules, ballot, judge information, among other information. Dr. Rich Edwards of Baylor University, guest contributor, provides a thorough discussion of Internet debate research with recommended links to online Lincoln Douglas research.
